Tongue Dancer 2019 Rosé of Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast ($22) This is a saignée rose, meaning it was made by draining off some wine from 2-day fermented ripe Pinot Noir. Normally I would consider this type of ros to be a by-product of a fine Pinot Noir rather than an 'intentional' rose that was farmed and picked to make a specific, more floral style of pink wine that might be a bit lower in alcohol. This is something of a different beast. While the TA (total acidity) is quite high at 7.3 grams per liter, the wine is also deeply colored and weighs in at 14.3% alcohol, which is high for a rose. It was also inoculated with a yeast from Bandol, a South of France region known for superb rose, as well as very ripe Mourvèdre wines. That's some serious intention right there. The wine itself is spicy - peppery, and savory with hints of black pepper, red pepper, watermelon and raspberry. Some of that spiciness no doubt comes from cool-climate grape sources. To sum all of this up, it's a relatively ballsy rose that actually works, so my recommendation is go get it. (91 Points)
