Review: Cuvaison 2021 Pinot Noir, Napa Valley, Los Carneros ($41)

When I started working in the wine trade in the late 1980's there were only about a dozen excellent producers of Pinot Noir in California, at least that was true from my vista in Minnesota. One of those was Cuvaison. Founded in 1969, this 200 acre estate in Carneros has been independent, family-owned for five decades, and they're still doing a bang-up job. I adore this 2021 release. It is fresh and vibrant, but still has wonderful depth as it unwinds after you pour it. Tangy cherry and raspberry fruit gives way to darker blackberry flavors and baking spice aromas over time, and the mouthfeel is velvety all the while. This is a LOVELY wine. (94 Points)
