Review: Blackbird Vineyards 2016 Contrarian Bordeaux Blend Napa Valley ($125)

This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (64%), Cabernet Franc (29%) and Merlot (7%) packs a serious punch. It's profound in color and boasts aromas of mint, black cherry, red currant, blackberry, espresso and vanilla and follows through with similar notes on the palate. It's a big Napa red, but it's still lively in the mouth and has decent acidity, which keeps you coming back for more. It's moderately tannic, but not terribly so. You could tuck it away for a few years, but it's already 5 years old and should drink well for the next 2 to 5 years depending on how mature you like your wines. (92 Points)
