Aquilini Family Wines from Washington State Reviewed

Dixie & Bass 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley ($19) Big, ripe and plush with aromas of black and red currants, blackberry compote and smoke. It's rich and generous on the palate, just a bit sappy, with very mellow, soft tannins. Definitely a wine for drinking now. (85 Points)

Be Human 2018 Merlot Columbia Valley ($17) A nice, easy-drinking, plush Merlot with velvety plum and black cherry flavors that deliver plenty of charm. It's an absolutely decent wine for the price and it has just enough of the pedigree one expects from Washington Merlot. (86 Points)

Roaming Dog 2019 Chardonnay Columbia Valley ($15) Ripe cantaloupe, pineapple and peach fruit flavors, with some vanilla and nutmeg thrown in for good measure. It's rich, even a bit decadent, and a very good value. (88 Points)

Chasing Rain 2018 Red Blend Red Mountain ($25) This is a pretty delicious wine. Supple, delicious, a little bit spicy and full of flavor. It is a little bit dense and blocky (intense and extracted), as a lot of Washington reds tend to be, but there is some real complexity here in the deep red and black currant flavors, spicy oak, some softer hints of vanilla, and just an overall sense of class, which Red Mountain has always delivered. (90 Points)

Chasing Rain 2018 Merlot Red Mountain ($25)

This is a young, complex, highly structured Merlot with bright plum, cherry, raspberry and blackberry fruit with a lifted balsamic note. In the mouth it's a very juicy wine, but with relatively high acid and tannin, finishing with a mocha coffee note and a little bit of bitterness. I think this one probably needs a bit of time to really come together, but the quality and potential is absolutely there, and you don't get a lot of California Merlot with this kind of structure. That's one of the things that sets Washington Merlot apart from stuff grown farther south. (92 Points)
