Matthew Bruno 2019 Chardonnay Carneros Napa Valley ($38) The fruit for this delicious wine comes from the Baldacci Family's Honey B Vineyard and Beckstoffer's Carneros Lake Vineyard. The nose is slightly floral with jasmine, mint, peach and toast notes giving way to pineapple guava fruit on the palate, flint and mildly smoky oak, and nice acidity on the finish. The new oak sticks out a bit, but should settle in after a few more months in bottle. Overall, very impressive. (93 Points)
Matthew Bruno 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley ($120) This is a middle aged wine at this point, and while it has some real class, the alcohol level (listed at 14.5%) shows a bit loudly at room temperature. It's a very ripe wine, and I think the freshness of the fruit has faded a bit, leaving a hot slip showing. The addition of an ice cube, or chilling the wine a bit is definitely helpful. There are red and black currant fruit flavors present, along with coconut, cinnamon, and well-integrated, Cabernet appropriate dried green herb notes. I would recommend drinking it sooner rather than later. (90 Points)
