Review: Domaine Anderson 2014 Dach Vineyard Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley CA ($55)

Domaine Anderson is the still wine sister brand of Roederer Estate, the French-owned sparkling wine house that first bought property in Mendocino County's Anderson Valley in 1981. If you read this blog, you probably are aware of my reverence for Pinot Noir and sparkling wines from Anderson Valley. It's also a great wine touring destination, as I pointed out in this San Francisco Chronicle article. Domaine Anderson's wines are rather limited, but well worth seeking out and available direct from the winery. Only 324 cases were made of this single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the valley floor Dach Vineyard planted with DRC, LaTache and Calera Pinot Noir clones. This is a gorgeous wine that's tasting great right now. It has deep wild strawberry and plum fruit, pretty herbaceous notes from the surrounding forest, and an especially deep mushroom / forest floor note that gives it a lot of umami on the finish. It's concentrated, but not at all sappy or over-extracted. The fruity elements and all of the other elements are beautifully balanced. I wouldn't hold on to it for a long time. It's perfectly ready to drink and showing beautifully. The vineyard has been certified biodynamic since October of 2016. 94 Points
