Blends of Cabernet and Sauvignon are fairly common in Australia, but something of a rarity here in the U.S. Every once in a while you taste a wine that's a pretty good argument for the proposition, and that's the case here. This delicious blend of 84% Cabernet and 16% Syrah from Washington State has deep, juicy berry, licorice and smoke aromas, well-integrated oak and a supple, velvety mouthfeel that's a bit softer than you might expect from a 100% Cabernet. At $50 a bottle, it isn't cheap, but it warrants the price and it doesn't hurt that Buty wines sport some of the best labels in American wine.
94 points.
