Superb Rhone Blend from Cadaretta
Cadaretta 2012 Windthrow Red Wine Columbia Valley, Washington ($50) Washington has a very fine contingent of Rhone variety growers and wineries, and this, for me, is a wine that moves Cadaretta into the upper echelon. You may be more familiar with the Middleton family's less expensive Buried Cane line, which delivers very good value. This top-of-the-line Rhone blend of 56% Syrah, 24% Grenache and 19% Mourvedre really backs up its price tag. It's deep and hearty, but equally focused and precise, leading with pretty lavender and sage aromas, cassis, boysenberry, cardamom, and vanilla notes that are beautifully integrated as I drink it a few months after release. Color me impressed. (94 points)
